Contribute a Guide to ACE Houston

ACE Houston publishes plain-English guides to city services, and the best guides come from people who work inside a process every day. If you know a Houston or Harris County procedure cold, we would like to publish your knowledge, credit you, and point readers to your work.

Topics we want

We look for practical, evergreen guides tied to a real resident task. Strong topics include permits and inspections, property tax and exemptions, utility billing and service, waste and recycling rules, city licensing, small-business registration, flood and drainage questions, and neighborhood and code enforcement. If your topic helps a Houstonian finish something official, it likely fits.

What we expect

  • Accurate and current, checked against the official City of Houston or county source, with those sources linked.
  • Written for a resident, not an insider. Define terms, give the steps in order, and note fees and deadlines.
  • Original work you have the right to publish, with no promotional or misleading claims.
  • Clear author details so we can add a short, honest byline.

What contributors get

Published contributors receive a byline with a short bio and one link to a relevant, reputable page you own or represent. We ask that guides stay genuinely useful rather than promotional, so a guide reads as help first. We edit for clarity, accuracy, and our style, and we confirm changes with you before publishing.

How to pitch

  • Email hello@acechouston.org with your topic and a one-paragraph outline.
  • Tell us your connection to the subject and how you will source it.
  • We reply with a yes, a suggested angle, or a pass, usually within a week.

ACE Houston is an independent publication. Contributed guides follow the same standards as our own, and the official government source is always the final word on any rule.
